Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 10, 2026
This policy explains what Biographer does with your information. Biographer is made by Biographer, Inc. ("we" or "us"). When you use our website or app, you're agreeing to what's described here. If you're not comfortable with that, please don't use Biographer.
1. What we collect
Information you provide
- Account information. Your name, email, and profile photo. When you use an email sign-in link, we store the temporary token needed to complete that sign-in. If you sign in with Google, we receive the profile information Google shares with us.
- Your content. Everything you put into Biographer: interview answers, topics you choose, bookmarks, and biographical details about yourself or the people you're writing about.
- Generated content. Follow-up questions, summaries, and draft prose that Biographer creates from your material. This stays in your account with everything else.
- Communications. Messages you send us for support or feedback.
Information we collect automatically
- Usage data. IP address, browser, device type, pages visited, and access times.
- Cookies. We use cookies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and run the app. We do not use cookies for advertising.
Biographer is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
2. What we do with it
We use your information to run your account, keep you signed in, store and organize your stories, generate interview questions and written drafts, respond when you contact us, improve Biographer, and comply with the law.
We do not sell your information. We do not use it to train outside ad networks. We do not share your stories with anyone who is not helping us run Biographer.
3. How we use AI
Biographer uses third-party AI models (such as OpenAI and Anthropic) to generate interview questions and written drafts. To do that, we send your prompts and the relevant parts of your material to those providers. They process it on our behalf, and they are not allowed to use it to train their own models.
AI gets things wrong. It can misremember dates, invent details, or miss the point. Read what it writes before you treat it as accurate or share it with family.
4. Who we share with
- Service providers. Hosting, database, email, and AI providers. They only receive what they need to do their work.
- Biographer staff. A small number of people on our team may access account and story content to provide support, fix bugs, or improve quality.
- People you choose. If you use a feature to share or export a story, that is your decision.
- Legal requirements. If we receive a valid legal request, or if someone's safety is at risk, we may have to disclose information.
- A future owner. If Biographer is acquired or merged, your information would move with it. This policy would still apply until it is updated.
5. How long we keep it
While your account is open, we keep your stories so you can return to them. If you delete your account, we delete your content from our active systems. Copies may remain in backups for a limited time before they are removed, and we may retain limited records where the law requires it.
6. Your choices
- Edit your profile from inside the app.
- Disable cookies in your browser. Biographer may not work as well if you do.
- Request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data. Email privacy@thebiographer.com and we will respond.
- If you are in California, the EU, the UK, or another jurisdiction with strong privacy laws, you may have additional rights. Email us and we will help.
7. Security
We use encryption in transit, access controls, and other standard safeguards to protect your information. No online service is perfectly secure.
8. Where your data lives
Biographer is based in the United States, and that is where your information is stored and processed. If you are outside the US, using Biographer means your data is transferred here.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will update the date at the top and, for larger changes, notify you in the app or by email. Continuing to use Biographer after a change means the updated policy applies.
